As part of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu curriculum we are studying the Ancient Japanese methodology of Bushido. Bushido is basically a system of moral principles in which I am incorporating into my teachings to further develop the students as martial artists.
Bushido comes from two words. Bushi which means “warrior”, and Do which means “way”. Therefore, translated Bushido is “The way of the warrior”. It follows a basic framework that consists of Chi (wisdom), Jin (benevolence) and Yu (courage).
Throughout the school year, the class will be involved in activities that will fulfill each of the seven tenets of the Bushido code. The Students will be recognized for their hardwork and achievements in each of these categories:
YUKI-Courage
JIN-Compassion
MEIYO-Honour
GI-Integrity
REI-Courtesy and Empathy
MAKOTO-Sincerity and Honesty
CHUGI-Loyalty and Devotion
